Huhu Toadista

Vuonna 2008 lähti kiertoon huhu, että Toad aiotaan syrjäyttää pois Mario peleistä huonon suosion vuoksi. Huhua lähetti nettisivu (sittemmin poistettu)nimeltä ToadnoToad ja eri sivujen chat-palstat. Nettisivuilla annettiin esimerkkejä peleistä joissa Toad on korvattu mm. ns. Sivuhahmoilla kuten Koopa tai uuden värinen Yoshi. Huhut kiellettiin jyrkästi ja asiaa selviteltiin pitkään kunnes Iso-Britannialaisessa pelilehdessä oli pitkä selitys tapahtuneelle:

"Toad ollaan jätetty syrjemmälle jotta uusia hahmoja saataisiin enemmän mukaan peleihin. Tavoitteenamme olisi uudistettuja Kart, Party, ja Sports pelejä Mario hahmojen teemaan niin, että vanhat hahmot olisivat tottakai jäljellä, mutta uusia hahmoja tulisi lisää ja osa saattaisivat korvata vanhoja." Lausuntoja on jälkeenpäin antanut niin Nintendon päätoimittaja kuin Super Mario-pelien tuottajaryhmä ja tuotekehittelijät, kaikki vakuuttavat ettei Toadia olla unohtamassa, hänet ollaan vain hetkellisesti paikattu uusilla, ehkä jopa syrjäytetyillä Mario hahmoilla.
