Vöyri-Maksamaa on rukiin valtakuntaa eli sen pinta-alasta lähes kaikki alava maa-ala on peltoa. Kunnassa on paljon mäkiä, jotka ovat pääasiassa havupuiden peitossa.

Geologisesti Vöyri-Maksamaa on hyvin alavaa. Monesta seikasta on pääteltävissä, että Vöyri-Maksamaa on vanhaa saaristoa. Osassa maa-alaa on asuttu hyvinkin kauan, kun taas alavat maat ovat olleet meren peittämiä vielä muutama sata vuotta sitten. Vielä 1600-luvulla Rökiöön pääsi veneellä.

Kunta on kaksikielinen ja enemmistönä 86 prosenttia asukkaista puhuu äidinkielenään ruotsia ja 13 prosenttia suomea. Prosentti puhuu muuta kieltä äidinkielenään. Vöyri-Maksamaalla on oma ruotsinkielinen murteensa.
