Jumala loi aasin ja sanoi hänelle:
- Sinä olet aasi. Sinä teet järkähtämättömästi työtä aamusta iltaan ja kannat painavia tavaroita selässäsi. Sinä syöt ruohoa etkä ole kovin älykäs. Sinä elät 50 vuotta.
Siihen aasi vastasi:
- 50 vuotta sellaista elämää on aivan liian pitkä, älä anna minulle enemmän kuin 20 vuotta. Ja niin toteutui.
Sitten Jumala loi koiran ja sanoi hänelle:
- Sinä olet koira. Sinä vartioit ihmisten omaisuutta. Olet ihmisten uskollisin ystävä. Sinä syöt sen minkä ihminen sinulle jättää ja sinä elät 25 vuotta.
Koira vastasi:
- Herra, 25 vuotta sellaista elämää on liian pitkä. Ole hyvä, älä anna minulle enemmän kuin 10 vuotta. Ja niin toteutui.
Sitten Jumala loi apinan ja sanoi:
- Sinä olet apina. sinä heilahdat puusta puuhun ja käyttäydyt kuin idiootti. Sinä olet hauska ja sillä lailla sinä elät 20 vuotta.
Apina sanoi:
- Herra, 20 vuotta pellen elämään on liian pitkä. Ole hyvä äläkä anna minulle enemmän kuin 10 vuotta. Ja niin toteutui.
Lopuksi jumala loi miehen ja sanoi hänelle:
- Sinä olet mies, maan ainut rationaalinen elävä. Sinä käytät älykkyyttäsi alistamaan muut olennot. Sinä hallitset koko maata ja elät 20 vuotta.
Siihen mies vastasi:
- Herra, olla mies vain 20 vuotta on liian vähän. Ole hyvä ja anna minulle ne 30 vuotta mitkä aasi jätti, 15 vuotta koiralta ja 10 vuotta apinalta.
- Ja niin Jumala huolehti siitä, että mies elää miehenä 20 vuotta.
- Sitten hän menee naimisiin ja tekee 30 vuotta aamusta iltaan työtä ja kantaa painavia tavaroita kuin aasi.
- Sitten hänellä on lapsia ja elää 15 vuotta kuin koira, hän vartioi taloa ja syö mitä perheensä jättää.
- Sitten, korkeassa iässä, hän elää vielä 10 vuotta kuin apina, käyttäytyy kuin idiootti ja huvittaa lapsenlapsiaan.
